Card Payments In Germany Surpass Cash

Card payments in Germany, a traditionally cash-forward country, have surpassed cash payments for the first time in history, according to reports.

A survey by EHI Retail Institute showed that last year, card payments made up 48.6 percent of all retail sales, while cash payments made up 48.3 percent.

The main cause for the shift, according to EHI, was a 4 percent increase in sales from Germany’s debit card system, to 30.1 percent. Another reason for the change is that trust in card payments is at an all-time high in the country, a fact that’s especially true for younger Germans.

Blockchain Payments Platform Nuggets Accepted into FCA Fintech Sandbox for 2nd Time | Crowdfund Insider

Nuggets, an e-commerce payments and ID platform that stores data on the blockchain, has been accepted into the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Innovation Sandbox, for the second time. This is the regulators’ fifth cohort since the Fintech sandbox launched.

PayPal Q1: Venmo Users Up, Payments Volume Dips

Venmo took center stage during PayPal’s Q1 2019 earnings report as PayPal CEO Dan Schulman released user numbers for the first time: 40 million active monthly users, defined as a person whose used the service once in 12 months.

“Venmo continues its significant momentum,” Schulman said on a call with analysts. “As user growth continues to accelerate, merchants are increasingly turning to Venmo as a way to attract a valuable and engaged consumer base.”
